Francis C. Yurgelun

Yurgelun, Francis C., age 90, of Duxbury, formerly of East Orleans, Jupiter, FL and New Canaan, CT died on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the Radius Health Care Center in Plymouth.

Francis was born in Boston on September 28, 1920 and was the son of the late Constantine and Mary (Kalinauskas) Yurgelun. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force during WWII, including service as control tower operator in central Burma. He was a graduate of Northeastern University which he attended while working at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, MA. He and his wife Genevieve were married at St. Mary’s Church in Foxborough on July 7, 1951 and enjoyed traveling throughout Europe where they lived for three years before settling in New Canaan.

Francis had a long career as a management consultant with Booz, Allen & Hamilton, traveling extensively until his retirement. He was a member of the Lake Club in New Canaan, Jupiter Inlet Beach Club, Orleans Yacht Club, Mill Pond Association in East Orleans and the Knights of Lithuania. In addition to traveling, he enjoyed gardening, wood carving, playing the piano and listening to music, and spending time with his family.

Beloved husband of the late Genevieve W. (Shepherd) Yurgelun. Loving father of Deborah Yurgelun-Todd and her husband Perry Renshaw of UT, Gretchen McKay and her husband Bryan of Groton, Christine Yurgelun of Lincoln, Charles Yurgelun of Sutton and Heidi Connolly. Dear grandfather of six grandchildren. Cherished brother of Albert Yurgelun of CT and the late Edward Yurgelun. Also survived by nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxborough. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, 58 Carpenter St. in Foxborough. Internment to follow with U.S. Air Force honors at Rock Hill Cemetery in Foxborough.
